This is a nice nutrional way to help out those elder or sick rats;

This is the general recipe I use to keep the weight on Arnold:
1 tbsp buttery spread (Smart Balance or the like)
1tbsp honey
1/4 cup water
1 3/4 tbsp cornmeal, quick oats, farina, or cream of wheat

Place buttery spread in microwavable custard cup.  Cover with honey.  Add water and then add cereal grain choice.  Nuke until bubbling mixture rises
(about 1 to 1.5 minutes).
(Putting the butter and honey in first prevents the hard clot of cereal you get on the bottom of the cup if you nuke just the cereal and water and then add the rest.)
   I also give Nutrical and Ensure to help balance the diet.

  She also has this recipe:
I also give a mixture of mashed avocado and oatmeal or other hot cereal grain.  It's very high calorie, also, so not for feeding healthy rats on a regular basis.  I put several avocados (minus skin & pit) in a blender and then spread it flat in a gallon
Ziploc bag and freeze.  Then, I just break off what I need each time.

Ingredients

RAT BREAD
YOU'LL NEED:
* 1-2 boxes of Jiffy Corn Bread Mix
* 1-2 eggs
* Milk
* 1-2 jars of babyfood (squash, sweet potatoes, mixed veggies, etc...)
* Frozen veggies (sm. pieces) like peas and carrots.
* Peanut Butter (1-2 tbl)
* 1 Zucchini (sp?)
* Rolled Oats (varies)
 (optional)* Dog Food (premium)

Procedure

I mix the Jiffy according to the directions, then add the other ingredients. Mix well and let stand for 5 minutes.

Pour into greased (PAM) muffin pan (or baking sheet), and bake according to box.  I check it since it could vary.
If using a baking sheet, after cooling, cut into squares.
I then save a week's worth in the fridge in a baggie, and the rest gets frozen.

In the morning, I pop one or two in the microwave and heat about 12 sec. and they LOVE it!

Cute HUMAN cookies that look like ratties/mice....

Ingredients:

hersheys kisses
almond slices
cherries with stems
bakers chocolate

---drain and dry cherries on a paper towel and lay out
---lay out slices of almonds in same or close to same shape/size
pairs
---unwrap same number of kisses to go with number of cherries
--- melt bakers chocolate in small sauce pan

Once chocolate is melted, dip a cherry into the chocolate till the
entire cherry is covered and dip the flat surface of a hersheys kiss into the melted chocolate too. place the cherry on the tray you will use to refrigerate and position one of the almond slices pointing up for ears and then take the flat part of the kiss and press against the almond slices and cherry. The melted chocolate acts as Glue.
A finished one will have the head being a kiss the point being the nose, ears pointing up or to the side made of almond slices and a body that is a chocolate covered cherry and the stem is the tail and easy means to hold to eat.  You can use frosting to dot on eyes too if you like.
